Two members of the Krasniqi Organization, including an Albanian government aide, were arrested for their roles in a racketeering enterprise (known as the the Krasniqi Organization) that engaged in murder, kidnapping, narcotics trafficking, extortion, robbery, arson, obstruction of justice, and interstate transportation of stolen goods.



Minnesota Man Sentenced for Orchestrating $158 Million Ponzi Scheme

Trevor Cook, of Apple Valley, Minnesota, was sentenced to 25 years in prison for orchestrating a Ponzi scheme that collectively cost more than 900 investors $158 million.



City Inspector Indicted in Pennsylvania on Extortion Charges

Kenneth Gassman, an inspector with the Philadelphia Department of Licenses and Inspection, was charged by indictment with Hobbs Act extortion in connection with allegedly using his position in an effort to compel the owner of a commercial property to sell the property to him.



Former Beazer Homes Executive Indicted in North Carolina on 11 Criminal Counts

Michael T. Rand, of Alpharetta, Georgia, the former chief accounting officer for Beazer Homes USA, Inc., was charged in an 11-count indictment returned in North Carolina with conspiracy, securities fraud, obstruction, witness tampering, false statements to a financial institution, misleading conduct, and destruction of records.



Man Sentenced in North Dakota for Sexual Abuse of a Child

Francis M. Baker, Jr., of McLaughlin, South Dakota, was sentenced in North Dakota to 15 years in federal prison after admitting that from between September 1995 to August 2002, on the Turtle Mountain Indian Reservation, he engaged in a sexual act with a child under 12 years of age.



Virginia Man Sentenced to 16 Years on Child Pornography Charge

Thomas Scott Biers, Jr., of Williamsburg, Virginia, was sentenced to 16 years in prison for receipt of child pornography, followed by a lifetime of supervised release.



Violent Sex Offender Sentenced in Washington on Drug, Witness Tampering Charges

Lawrence Williams, a resident of the Special Commitment Center on McNeil Island, Washington (which is a treatment facility for violent sex offenders), was sentenced to nine years in prison and five years of supervised release for conspiracy to distribute crack cocaine and witness tampering.



Tennessee Woman Sentenced for Document Fraud

Lindsey Rebecca Shepard, of Johnson City, Tennessee, was sentenced to 30 months in prison for manufacturing more than 400 false identification documents which were used by undocumented aliens to obtain employment in the United States. Shepard ran the illegal document mill from her apartment in subsidized housing.



Massachusetts Bookkeeper Pleads Guilty to Embezzling Funds from Employer

Armine E. Sabatini, of Mashpee, Massachusetts, pled guilty to embezzling more than $100,000 from her former employer, the Woods Hole, Martha's Vineyard, and Nantucket Steamship Authority.



Three Town Councilmen Plead Not Guilty in Rhode Island Corruption Probe

Former North Providence, Rhode Island town councilmen Joseph S. Burchfield, Raymond L. Douglas III, and John A. Zambarano pled not guilty to conspiracy, extortion, and bribery charges. The three were named in a superseding indictment alleging they and others extorted bribes from several businesses appearing before the town council.
