Nexus Technologies Employees, Partner Sentenced in Foreign Bribery Scheme

Three former employees and a partner of Nexus Technologies Inc., a Philadelphia-based company, were sentenced for their roles in a conspiracy to bribe officials of the Vietnamese government in exchange for lucrative contracts to supply equipment and technology to Vietnamese government agencies, in violation of the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act .



Florida Couple Guilty in Forced Labor Conspiracy Involving 39 Filipino Guest Workers

Sophia Manuel and Alfonso Baldonado Jr., owners of a labor contracting service, pled guilty to conspiring to hold 39 Filipino nationals in compelled service in country clubs and hotels in southeast Florida. Manuel also pled guilty to making false statements in an application she filed with the U.S. Department of Labor to obtain foreign labor certifications and visas under the federal H2B guest worker program.



New York Woman Pleads Guilty in Organized Crime-Related Sex Trafficking Ring

Suzanne Porcelli, of Brooklyn, New York, pled guilty to her role in an interstate prostitution business where young women were exploited and sold for sex. Porcelli was arrested in April 2010 in connection with a takedown of 14 members and associates of the Gambino Organized Crime Family.



Connecticut Developer Sentenced for Corruption, Currency Structuring Offenses

James Botti, of Shelton, Connecticut, was sentenced to 72 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release, for public corruption and currency structuring offenses.

Paul Solofa, the director of the school lunch program for the government of the U.S. Territory of American Samoa, was arrested on charges of witness tampering and obstruction of justice.



New York Woman Pleads Guilty to 37 Gold Burglaries in Virginia

Melinda Marie Soto, of New York, New York, pled guilty to conspiring to steal at least $500,000 worth of gold and other valuables from 37 residences in Northern Virginia, and to transport that stolen property to New York in order to sell it.



Former Customs and Border Protection Exec Sentenced on Child Pornography Charge

Edwin Torres-Feliu, of Woodbridge, Virginia, who was the former director of administration for laboratory systems for U.S. Customs and Border Protection, U.S. Department of Homeland Security, was sentenced to 72 months in prison, followed by five years of supervised release, for receipt of child pornography.



Real Estate Agent in Mortgage Fraud Conspiracy Sentenced in Virginia

Real estate agent Jorge Cidar Mendez Chavez, of Ashburn, Virginia, was sentenced to 27 months in prison in connection with his role in an 18-month mortgage fraud conspiracy which involved at least seven properties and fraudulent loans of almost $6 million.

Scientist Pedro Leonardo Mascheroni and his wife, Marjorie Roxby Mascheroni, who both previously worked as contractors at the Los Alamos National Laboratory in New Mexico, were indicted on charges of communicating classified nuclear weapons data to a person they believed to be a Venezuelan government official and conspiring to participate in the development of an atomic weapon for Venezuela, among other violations.



Man Indicted in Ohio on Civil Rights Charges in Connection with Church Arson

Pudder was indicted in Ohio for allegedly intentionally damaging, destroying, and attempting to destroy religious property because of the race, color, and ethnic characteristics of individuals associated with that property and for willfully and knowingly using fire to commit a felony offense.

Kim Starnes, of Sheffield Lake, Ohio, was charged with willfully and knowingly making and causing to be made a materially false, fictitious, and fraudulent statement and representation in a matter within the jurisdiction of the FBI. He is also charged with retaliating against a witness.



Owner of Massachusetts Seafood Dealer Pleads Guilty to $7 Million Bank Fraud

Robert Coutu, of Cumberland, Rhode Island, the owner of Ocean Fresh Seafood, Inc., headquartered in North Attleboro, Massachusetts, pled guilty to engaging in a scheme to defraud Wells Fargo Business Credit, Inc., a division of Wells Fargo Bank NA, of at least $7 million.



Massachusetts Man Sentenced for Failing to Report to Prison

Chuong Van Duong, of Bradford, Massachusetts, was sentenced to 15 months in prison for failing to surrender for service of his previously imposed prison sentence. Approximately one week before his reporting date, Duong cut off his electronic bracelet, left his residence, and fled to Canada, thus failing to report to prison on June 5, 2009 as originally ordered.

Two Men and Bank Employee Arrested in Florida Bank Robbery

Clifford S. Davis, Juan Gabriel Mercardo, and Barbara Hauck, all of West Palm Beach, Florida, were arrested on bank robbery and carjacking charges. Hauck was the assistant bank manager of the victim bank and the girlfriend of Mercardo, and allegedly provided information to Davis and Mercardo before the robbery about a large deposit expected on the morning of September 14, 2010. She also gave Davis instructions regarding how the door locks in the bank operated.

Douglas Lee Patrick, of Baltimore, Maryland, pled guilty to receiving images depicting minors engaged in sexually explicit conduct. Patrick posed online as an 18-year-old lesbian named "Leah" who was suffering from cancer in order to obtain pictures of minors engaging in sexually explicit conduct.
