Peter Townsley, of British Columbia, Canada, was charged in San Francisco, California in connection with engaging in a scheme to defraud purchasers of organic fertilizers, and the agency that approves fertilizers as organic, by falsely representing his company's fertilizer to be an organic product when he knew that the product contained prohibited synthetic materials.



California Man Pleads Guilty to Sexual Exploitation of Minors

Steven Patrick Arthur, Porterville, California, pled guilty to four counts of sexual exploitation of a minor. Arthur and a co-defendant administered a tranquilizer to four minors in his care. Once the minors were unconscious, the defendants produced still and video images of each other engaged in sexually explicit conduct with the victims.



Minnesota Man Guilty of Transporting a Child for Sex, Producing Child Pornography

Joseph Scott Champion, of Fishersville, Virginia, was sentenced to 30 months in prison on a variety of fraud charges in connection with stealing nearly $1 million from his employer.



Georgia Man Sentenced in Virginia for Distributing Child Pornography

Galen E. Vanord, of Millen, Georgia, was sentenced in Richmond, Virginia to 20 years in prison for distributing child pornography. Law enforcement in Richmond downloaded 600 images of child pornography and one video from Vanord. In the course of their investigation, agents seized Vanord’s computer and hard drive, on which they found more than 14,000 images of child pornography.

Six Indicted in Ohio in Medicare Fraud Scheme Linked to Organized Crime Ring

Six people were charged in Ohio with stealing identities of doctors and patients in an effort to bill Medicare for more than $40 million worth of fraudulent charges. The indictments were unsealed as part of a nationwide a sweep in which 73 people believed to be part of an Armenian organized criminal enterprise were indicted in New York, Georgia, California, and New Mexico.

Ten Indicted in California in Connection with $17 Million Medicare Fraud Scheme

Leader of Property-Flipping Scheme and Husband Sentenced in Maryland

Minh-Vu Hoang, and her husband, Thanh Hoang, both of Bethesda, Maryland, was sentenced to five years in prison for conspiracy to defraud the IRS and the U.S. Bankruptcy Trustee in connection with a scheme to conceal millions in profits earned from the purchase and sale of hundreds of foreclosure properties. Her husband, Thanh Hoang, was sentenced to a year and a day in prison for conspiracy to impede the IRS in connection with his role in the scheme.

Michigan Man Sentenced for Sexual Abuse of a Minor

George Vernon Rogers, Jr., of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, was sentenced to 180 months in federal prison for having sexual intercourse with a 15-year-old girl at his residence. Rogers had previously been convicted in Sault Ste. Marie Tribal Court of sexually assaulting a 15-year-old girl in 2002.



Man Sentenced in Michigan for Child Pornography Violation

Robert Andrew Faber, of Fort Lauderdale, Florida, a former resident of Gladstone, Michigan, was sentenced to 87 months in federal prison for receiving child pornography on compact discs from a source in Indiana which he would then make available on his computer to others seeking child pornography.



Michigan Woman Sentenced for Fatally Assaulting Her Handicapped Son

Theresa Marie Finfrock, of Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, a member of the Sault Ste. Marie Tribe of Chippewa Indians, was sentenced to 30 months in federal prison for assaulting her severely handicapped 7-year-old son at her residence, resulting in substantial brain injuries which ultimately led to her son's death.



Michigan Man Sentenced on Child Pornography Charge

Erik Michael Smith, of Iron Mountain, Michigan, was sentenced to 235 months in federal prison for receipt of child pornography, admitting that he had obtained child pornography on the Internet and that he used file sharing applications on his computer to receive and distribute child pornography to other child pornographers he had met in Internet chat rooms.
