Indiana Inmate Sentenced for Assaulting Correctional Officers

David B. Hearne, an inmate at the United States Penitentiary in Terre Haute, Indiana, was sentenced to 15 years in prison for assaulting two correctional officers. Following an argument regarding inmate movement with the first officer, Hearne struck her in the face with his fist. When the second officer interceded by moving between Hearne and the first officer, Hearne punched the second officer in the face with his fist and knocked him unconscious.



Missouri Man Pleads Guilty to Defrauding at Least 23 Stores in Three States

Jason M. Hendricks, of Clinton, Missouri,pled guilty to his role in a fraud scheme that victimized at least 23 stores in a three-state area, resulting in more than $242,000 in losses.



Durable Medical Equipment Company Operators Indicted for Health Care Fraud

Bassey Essien and Ebong Akpan, of Houston, Texas, were charged by a federal grand jury with conspiracy, multiple counts of health care fraud, and aggravated identity theft for their roles in a scheme to defraud Medicaid through the fraudulent billing for adult urinary incontinence supplies.



Two City Councilmen Indicted in Louisiana for Racketeering and Extortion

Robert E. "Red" Stevens and Arthur Gilmore, Jr., both members of the Monroe, Louisiana City Council, were indicted by a federal grand jury on charges of racketeering and extortion for taking bribes from individuals and organizations with business before the council.



Louisiana Businessman Guilty of Submitting False Documents to Mortgage Company

Randel J. Mason, owner of Mason Construction Company, Inc., and Tammy H. Dixon, both of Shreveport, Louisiana, pled guilty to two counts of wire fraud for submitting false documentation to Mason Construction's financing company in order to receive draws on its line of credit.



Former City Official Sentenced in Louisiana to More Than 21 Years in Prison

Benjamin L. Edwards, Sr., a former member of the Board of Directors of the Sewerage and Water Board of New Orleans, was sentenced to over 21 years in prison for wire fraud and tax evasion and was ordered to pay restitution in the amount of approximately $3.6 million to his victims.
