FBI Opens Investigation Into Three Shootings in Northern Virginia

The FBI has opened an investigation into three shootings that have occurred in Northern Virginia since October 17, 2010. Investigative evidence has confirmed that shots fired at the National Museum of the Marine Corps in Triangle, Virginia, and the Pentagon in Arlington, Virginia, involved a single weapon. Ballistics testing is underway for an overnight shooting that took place on October 25 or October 26 at the Marine Corps Recruiting Station in Chantilly, Virginia.



Connecticut Bank Vice President Sentenced for Embezzling More Than $1 Million

Robert A. Nixon, of East Haven, Connecticut, was sentenced to 55 months of imprisonment for embezzling more than $1 million from the former Castle Bank and Trust, now Naugatuck Savings Bank, where he was employed as a vice president.



Pennsylvania Man Sentenced for Cashing Counterfeit Checks at Connecticut Banks

David Dupee, of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, was sentenced to 34 months in prison cashing more than $70,000 in counterfeit checks at Connecticut banks.



GlaxoSmithKline to Plead Guilty, Pay $750 Million to Resolve Criminal and Civil Liability

SB Pharmco Puerto Rico Inc., a subsidiary of GlaxoSmithKline, PLC (GSK), has agreed to plead guilty to charges relating to the manufacture and distribution of certain adulterated drugs made at GSK’s now-closed Cidra, Puerto Rico manufacturing facility. The resolution includes a criminal fine and forfeiture totaling $150 million and a civil settlement under the False Claims Act and related state claims for $600 million.



Maryland Man Pleads Guilty to Sexually Exploiting Minors to Produce Child Pornography

John Fred Nicklas IV, of Middle River, Maryland, pled guilty to sexually exploiting minors to produce child pornography. Some of child pornography seized from Nicklas' home included at least six videos created by Nicklas depicting him sexually abusing a baby girl and a minor female, and recording three minor females as they changed clothes.



California Man Sentenced in $20 Million Scam That Sold Fake Art Nationwide Via TV Auctions

James Mobley, of Woodland Hills, California, who participated in a $20 million scam that sold fake art--including works purported to be by Picasso, Dali, and Chagall--through a rigged televised art auction, was sentenced to five years in federal prison.



Texas Deputy Sheriff Indicted on Bribery Charges

Harris County (Texas) Deputy Sheriff George Wesley Ellington was indicted for allegedly accepting bribes to access confidential law enforcement databases and provide protection for a purported ecstasy dealer.



Missouri Man Sentenced in Kansas for Bank Robberies

Kenneth Rayford, of Kansas City, Missouri, was sentenced to 14 years for his role in three bank robberies, including one that was prevented by FBI agents who locked the bank doors to keep the robbers out.



Man Sentenced for Shooting Laser at California Highway Patrol Helicopter

Nathan Ramon Wells, of Cathedral City, California, was sentenced to 15 months in federal prison for shooting a laser at a California Highway Patrol helicopter that was providing support during a suspected burglary call.



D.C. Man Convicted of Defrauding Insurance Company

Roscoe Grant Jr., a District of Columbia resident, was convicted of six felony counts arising from an insurance fraud scheme in which he lied to obtain life insurance in the name of his dying brother.



Oregon Gang Associate Sentenced to 10 Years in Prison on Drug Charges

James Terrance Warren, of Portland, Oregon, was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for distributing crack cocaine as a result of Operation Gang Strike, an investigation targeting criminal organizations and gang associates responsible for dealing firearms and selling large amounts of both crack and powder cocaine in the Portland Metropolitan area.



Owner of Cosmetic Surgery Clinic Sentenced in New York for Health Care Fraud

Former cosmetic surgery clinic owner Arthur Kissel, who was not a doctor, was sentenced to 10 years in prison for engaging in a series of fraudulent practices out of his Manhattan clinic. In one incident, a patient at Kissel's clinic died during a liposuction procedure in 1998.



Hawaii Man Charged with Making False Statements in Matter Involving International Terrorism

Forged Wyeth Painting and Mesopotamian Antiquities Seized

The United States Attorney for the District of Delaware announced the seizure of a fraudulent Andrew Wyeth painting from a New York auction house and the seizure of Mesopotamian antiquities from a California antiquities dealer. The seizures resulted from two separate investigations.



New Mexico Man Pleads Guilty to Federal Firearms Charges

Carlos Martell, of Roswell, New Mexico, pled guilty to making false statements to federally licensed firearms dealers in connection with the purchase of eight firearms. Martell admitted that he paid two individuals to purchase firearms for him so that he would not be directly linked to the firearms.
